Are usually Thai ppl just visit temple and pray to Buddha only but seldom rent and collect Amulet?

My 4 year old grand daughter is 25% Thai and she went to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai and she walked around the shine 3 times and made merit and then we rented a amulet from the temple that was bless by a monk. So I guess she will be protected for the rest of her life. So I guess the answer could be yes, but than again I seen most Thais did not rent amulets so the answer could also be no.
