USSR - US relations during the Cold War?

well i am not sure about the prange sprong but i know that during Korea and Vietnam, the soviet union aided the enemy, but didnt fight for them(because this would anger the US and cause nuclear war), so relations just stayed tense, we knew that soviet union was helping, but there wasnt much we could do without causing nuclear war. that is the whole point of the cold war, both sides were just to scared of the other nuclear war was just to scary to provoke the other (alothough there were times were it came close like during the cuban missle crisis). we also did the same to them in the war they had against afganistan. we helped the afgans beat the soviets, so i guess we got even. lol. hope that helped. im not as good at explaining over the computer.
