Can a Ni-Cad 3.6V, 600mAh be replaced with a Ni-MH 3.6V,1000mAh battery?

My Uniden 5.8GHz cordless phone battery died. It's a Ni-Cad 600mAh and only a year and a half old. The Ni-MH 1000mAh battery seems like it should last longer. I guess what i really want to know is what is the best replacement battery with a low price for my phone. Uniden BT-905
